Four pennies and a dime

Screen Shot 2017-12-07 at 3.07.45 PM

Just witnessed a scene that made my skin crawl.

I’m in Laguna Beach, working inside one of my favorite little coffee shops. A bunch of young teenage girls gathered at the adjacent table. All five or six of them looking at their phones, playing songs aloud.

At one point one of the girls rose to get frozen yogurt from the machine. She dropped her bowl on the floor, and made no effort to clean up the dairy mess. The other girls left their shit behind. Paper cups, spoons, bowls. Worst of all, in some weird way, they departed with four pennies and a dime sitting on the wood table.

That image hit me hardest.

Four pennies and a dime.

Once again, Jeff Pearlman has produced an exhaustively researched, elegantly written book that re-creates one of the most colorful and memorable teams of the modern era. No basketball fan's bookshelf will be complete without it.
