Mike Tyson was ridiculously intimidating

So I teach journalism at Chapman University out here in Southern California, and for yesterday’s lesson I had my 11 students read up on the 1988 Michael Spinks-Mike Tyson fight. Then, I rolled down the big screen and we watched all 91 seconds of Iron Mike’s easy first-round knockout triumph.

The whole thing was super fast, and Tyson was menacing and intimidating and everything that made him great. But what caught my attention the most—and stuck with me—was his ring entrance.

When Spinks came into the arena, the sound was Kenny Loggins singing the soft-and-fluffy “This is It.”

Then, when Tyson entered, it was just … clanging.

Literally—the sound of clanging.

That’s a bad-ass motherfucker.
