So I’ve gone to the same post office for the past, oh, 2 1/2 years. There’s one clerk who’s always there. He’s a nice guy, early-30s, San Diego Chargers fan. Today, we had pretty much the same conversation we have on 90 percent of my visits.

HIM: “Hey, man, how’s it going?”

ME: “Great.”

HIM: “So you happy the school year is almost over?”

ME: “I am. It’s always a long run.”

HIM: “You teaching summer school?”

ME: “Nope.”

HIM: “That’ll be [fill in a dollar amount].”

ME: “Thanks.”

Then I leave.
